What's the BIG Idea?
"What's the BIG Idea?" is a four year project designed by the Vermont Center for the Book and funded by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the project is to help public libraries become places where informal math and science learning occurs through programming, learning centers, displays and circulation of books and materials. The content focus is on four areas of math and science that early childhood educators say children must have experience with before they start school: patterns and relationships, change over time, geometry and spacial sense, and numbers and operation. The target audience is children ages 3-7 and their families. We at the Springfield Town Library are pleased and proud to have been chosen to be a part of this program. Patrons of the Children's Room benefit by being offered special programs and a large assortment of math and science books and kits for borrowing. Watch this site for books and activities.
